2017

First founded as a social media app

In September 2017, ThisThat was born at the University of Edinburgh. The idea? A social media platform powered by a Tinder-style swiping experience where users could ask and share opinions with their communities.

2018

Built 50 versions of the app

In just 18 months, we launched over 50 iterations of the app. It went viral, attracting over 100,000 users. Along the way, we learned exactly how to engage people to ask for and share their opinions—all without extrinsic motivation.

2019

Joined APX accelerator in Berlin

Buoyed by our traction, we joined the APX accelerator programme in Berlin. But by then, Instagram polls had gained momentum after launching in late 2017. We faced a harsh reality: we were just a feature, not a platform.

2019

Pivoted to be a survey platform

After a hard reset, we experimented with crypto rewards for user engagement—and engagement plummeted. It became clear that extrinsic rewards diminished the quality of responses. This insight changed everything. We shifted focus, building a survey platform that rivalled Typeform and SurveyMonkey, powered by intrinsic motivation.

2020

Built SaaS but needed a use case

We doubled down, building a SaaS platform for businesses to launch surveys, collect responses, and analyse results. Our gamified surveys achieved a completion rate of over 70% compared to the industry average of 3–5%. We worked across industries—events, professional services, marketing agencies—but hadn’t yet found our niche.

2021

Enter influencer marketing—and our breakthrough

In Q1 2021, we ran our first brand lift study for influencer marketing. The response? Clients loved it. This was our moment. We doubled down and began generating real revenue.

2022

The Brand Lift Solution for Influencer Marketing

By 2022, we had become the go-to solution for influencer agencies. We didn’t just win the Best Influencer Marketing Technology award at the Global Influencer Marketing Awards—we also took home the Industry Choice Award.

2023

Scaling to £3M RR

Growth was the name of the game in 2023. We scaled to a £3M ARR, leveraging the power of natural exposure data and further strengthening our unique selling point.

2024

Raised $2.5M Backed by 4 Unicorn Founders

Building on our success, we closed our seed round, raising $2.5M. Our backers? Four unicorn founders and Tier 1 VCs including FJ Labs, 10x Founders and EWOR.
